5 TIPS to fight and eliminate frizz from your curls

Image

I have been really slacking on posts about curly hair. That’s simply because I haven’t switched the products or routines that I have been using. I finally found what works and I am sticking with it. I am still in the process of healing my curls due to the damage with going purple and I am happy to say they’re almost completely back! But as those with curly hair know our hair is more prone to being dry and frizzy and with summer and humidity just around the corner, here are some ways to maintain that.

Curly hair is naturally more dry and naturally more frizzy. Sometimes it’s the weather, sometimes it’s who knows what but either way no one wants frizz and we are constantly looking for ways to get rid of it.  I am happy to say I have figured out a few ways to eliminate frizz and I am happy to say that my hair is under control so I hope some of these tips work for you too!

1. DEEP CONDITIONING

Get a good deep conditioner and use it, for me once a week or every two weeks. It penetrates the hair shaft and gives it that moisture that curly hair needs. Just apply and leave for 5-10 mins and wash out. Your hair will love you for it. It will be silky and more tamed.

2. DON’T BE ROUGH WHEN HANDLING YOUR HAIR

Meaning, when you are washing it, conditioning it, brushing it, BE GENTLE AND TAKE YOUR TIME. Don’t rush !!! Do not rush with the process. Especially when your hair is wet. It is prone to more damage and breakage when wet. If you don’t take your time, especially with curly hair that needs more of your time, you will be left with frizz and unruly hair.

3. NEVER LEAVE WITHOUT APPLYING CREAM OR SERUM

So when it is humid outside and your hair all puffs in, it mainly means that your hair needs moisture so it’s absorbing it from environmental factors and swells up. If you apply a layer or two of a good (thicker texture) styling cream or a serum your hair will be hydrated enough and won’t have to absorb it from the humidity. Result: no frizz.

4. USE A PROTECTIVE SPRAY

You have to protect the cuticles so they don’t expand and cause frizz. As the finish polishing touch after every wash, diffuse, air dry, basically whatever I do, I will spray the one and only, Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold and Shine Moisture Mist. This holds the curl, smooths out the cuticles and prevents frizz while making your hair shiny. I love this stuff. I did a full review of Shea Moisture  products a while ago which I absolutely love love love!

5. PAY ATTENTION and SWITCH IT UP TIME TO TIME

Lastly, listen to your hair. This actually is probably the most important. Curls will tell you what they need and what to do. Listen to them. Also, I find that just because one product or one routine may have worked for you in the past, it doesn’t mean it always will. So switch it up from time to time. Change is good in some cases. Upgrade your appliances, meaning diffuser to ionic one, do not towel dry but use an old cotton shirt.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any helpful tips. I am always glad to take in more.

    1. I find that we always want what we don’t have and this is especially true when it comes to hair. Straight hair girls want curls and are trying to curl it up and curly hair girls are always straightening lol
I love my hair now and we all reach the point I think when we learn to love what we are given but I definitely wanted straight hair most of my life lol
