Choosing the RIGHT RED LIPSTICK

Image

I did a post a while back about how to find your perfect nude lipstick, determining your undertone, whether your warm or cool and going based off of that. With red lipstick, it works a bit different and it seems like everyone has their own theory. Red is already a daring colour and a bit intimidating so you want to make sure you find the shade that works for you! However, if you cannot, luckily there are CLASSIC REDS that work for everyone with any skin tone.

I read numerous articles on how to find your perfect shade of red lipstick. Everyone and their mama had their opinion and it varied greatly. For example, some would say if you have very fair skin you need to choose orangey-red tone and stay away from pink-red and others would say yesss go for pink red and stay away from orange!

So I believe that red is one of those colours that you just need to try and see what suits you because a number of different things besides your complexion can affect the right shade for you, such as:

your hair colour and your eyebrows!

So rather than wasting time on figuring out the RIGHT shade of red, here are the CLASSIC REDS that any lady of any skin complexion and hair colour can rock!

Oh and what I mean by CLASSIC red is that Marilyn Monroe type of lip. I will include some drugstore and some higher end brands.

1. MAC – Ruby Woo

2. E.L.F. – Fearless

I think red is beautiful on everyone! It’s daring, sexy, feminine and classy. I know it takes balls to wear it but if you try it once you’ll be addicted.

Red used to be only for special occasions but I think nowadays you can wear it for any daytime look.

When wearing red lipstick keep in mind:

– the rest of your make up must be subtle
– you must wear lipliner as red bleeds

What are some of your favourite red lipsticks???

    1. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚ and yes they are so high maintenance unfortunately but so worth it lol what I dislike is when the bold lipstick whether it’s red or pink whichever colour fades even a bit, you have to reapply lol so I’m always checking it obsessively lol whereas with nudes or lighter tones it doesn’t matter.

  1. Great post. I had such a hard time finding a red. I have very pink undertones and quite a bit of pink in my lips, so even “classic” reds would look pink (or worse – fuchsia) on me. Finally I found MAC Dubonnet. It’s very dark and more wine coloured in the tube (definitely an intense blue-red) but shows up like a true red on me.

    1. I haven’t tried that one before. My mom actually has the same thing with her undertone being so pigmented and pink every lipstick comes out pink lol. I will tell her to check out this one by MAC. Thanks!
