My Journey to Healthy Skin (from Rosacea to Glowing Skin and tips for great face care routine)

After years of searching for great products and a great cleansing routine, I’ve finally found it and I wanted to share all my tips with you and hopefully you can benefit from it as well!

This is what my face used to look like and this is what it looks like now.
This is my journey from Rosacea to an ‘almost’ flawless glowing skin. The only reason I saw almost flawless is because there is no such thing as perfect skin, as you will always have a blemish or two but it’s pretty damn close.
This is not just for problem prone skin, this blog is for anyone who is interested to find a great routine for taking care of their face.

I have never had any issues with my skin all up until my mid to late 20s. No pimples, no blemishes, and definitely no skin conditions such as acne, eczema, etc. I thought I was blessed! Since I had no issues, I did not pay particular attention to what products I used for cleansing as well as make up. My skin would not react to anything so I was putting on my face whatever I felt like.
My cleansing routine was very basic to pretty much non existent, meaning, baby wipes to remove make up and water followed by a basic Nivea face cream.

A few years ago I noticed a bit of redness on my cheeks but I was able to cover it up by foundation so I didn’t care too much. It would come and go until one day it wouldn’t. This went on for years. About half a year ago, I got huge red bumps that itched and oozed. They were in clusters all over my cheeks and forehead. It was really bad. My face was hot I felt as if my entire head was burning.
I am sure you will all agree with me when I say if anything is wrong with your face, you feel very insecure and self conscious . I felt as if the entire world was staring at my face and noticing this. This time around no foundation in the world could cover it. It actually accentuated the bumps more so. It was a mess!
I tried to treat this myself by going and buying various products almost every day, spending crazy money on shit that did not even work!

To make this long story short, after I saw the dermatologist and was diagnosed with Rosacea, I was given an antibiotic but in form of a cream. They had to kill the bacteria first . I was given MetroCream that after reading reviews it seems did not work for a lot of people, but luckily for me, it did. MetroCream got rid of the bumps fast and it decreased the redness. I understand my face will never really be completely red free, but now it’s more light pink which I can deal with.

I realized something very important: Facial care routine should be very BASIC. It’s better to find one good product that targets and nourishes in a few different ways, then to be using 5 different products. Too much of anything is no bueno!
While I was using the ointment (metrocream) I implemented a routine that even after I stopped the antibiotic this routine and these products is what maintained my clear and bump free skin, radiant.

ROUTINE:

REMOVE MAKE UP: Baby wipes or Pond Original Make up wipes.
What I use depends on how much make up I have on my face that day. If I am wearing less make up, I use baby wipes. They are gentle and will be able to remove the little make up I have thoroughly. However, if I have a full face of make up, I use Ponds. They are amazing. So gentle, non stinging, non irritating, non burning and they smell great!

CLEANSER: I use Cetaphil to wash my face.
I always used to hear about Cetaphil in previous years and now I know why. It’s so simple and basic but it does the job. You feel as if your face is clean after. It is more of a soapy/gel substance, does not lather, does not sting, burn eyes, nothing at all. Removes all dirt and make up completely and it does not dry out your skin.

MOISTURIZER: VICHY Aqualia Thermal Mineral Balm
This is very moisturizing but not oily or greasy and it is definitely not heavy. It absorbs very fast and leaves your skin satin smooth. This is made to sooth any skin irritations that you may have. It replenishes, renews and rejuvanates your skin. If you do not have sensitive and problem prone skin, this moisturizer will keep your face hydrated all day long while protecting it against every day and environmental things that effect it.

SUNSCREEN: La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 60.
I never cared for the sunscreen unless I was on the beach tanning. Dealing with Rosacea I learnt the importance of it, not just for those with Rosacea but even those with healthy skin. During the day, sometimes I skip my VICHY moisturizer and only apply the suncreen before I do my make up routine. This is such an amazing sunscreen that I feel as if it’s not just a sunscreen, I feel it can fully replace a moisturizer. For the days I feel my skin is extra dry, I will apply the VICHY cream then La Roche-Posay sunscreen but yes there are days that I only go with the sunscreen.

This is it. These are the only things I use for my face routine and I feel like my face has been re-born. It glows, it is not even dry how it was and my skin would peel off from how dry it used to be. It is more elastic and just overall healthy.

  1. Lookin’ good lady! Love the makeup and the hair and your eyes are looking very hazel even almost green in the pic!

    1. Thank you ! xoxoxo.
I am actually not wearing make up in this photo. Just mascara and some lip gloss but no foundation. Can you believe how far my skin has come along? I am so relieved. I don’t look scary anymore lol.

  2. great post!

I’m always on the quest to find the best skin care products. I like cetaphil but find it doesnt do much for me. it does work well with a clarisonic tho!

If you havent already, check out Caroline Hirons’s blog. http://www.beautymouth.com/ one of the best skincare guru’s out there. 🙂

  3. Hey Char,

Thanks! I wish I could use a clarisonic or at least a good face scrub because I like that type of clean feeling but unfortunately I can’t. It inflammes my rosacea big time. It’s too rough for my skin. They normally say to stay away from scrubs if you have rosacea but I find Cetaphil is mild and it does the job. But it’s funny cuz I remember trying it years ago and it did nothing!

I also like Olay’s products. They also have their own version of a clarisonic and the little needles are made out of silicone so it’s not as harsh on my face. They also have great face washes.

Im going to check out the blog you suggested 🙂

  4. ooh that sucks! i love my clarsonic. i dont know what i would do without it. lol

Haven’t used Olay products before. I’m so paranoid everything will clog my pores. I’m using B.Kamins face wash at night and Philsophy Purity Cleanser in the morning. So far no problems! .

    1. it really is! I am hoping it stays that way because sometimes after I use a cleanser after a while it stops working so I hope that doesn’t happen to me with Cetaphil because I really like it!
